PEOPLE: When mapping out scent profiles, from where do you pull information?
LS: NEST New York works exclusively with renowned master perfumers that have access to the finest ingredients around the globe. Using state-of-the-art technology, they are able to identify, isolate and extract only the most beautiful parts of a flower or a plant—that is why the ingredients are so extraordinary. I work closely with these highly talented perfumers to plan NEST’s portfolio so that each fragrance taps a different olfactive category and has its own personality that creates a unique mood.

PEOPLE: What’s a scent that holds nostalgia for you? Why?
LS: Last year we won a Fragrance Foundation Award (the Oscar of the fragrance industry) for ourLychee Rose Eau de Parfum. I was inspired to create this fragrance while attending my dear friend’s wedding on a lake in Italy. They exchanged vows under what looked like a million pale pink roses and after the ceremony we all enjoyed a glass of pink champagne infused with lychee liquor. We combined all those essences, and apparently, we did a great job!
PEOPLE: What’s a scent that instantly transports you to a tropical locale?
LS: Balinese Coconut is literally a tropical paradise in a bottle. ThePerfume OilandBody Mistare made with the essence of fresh coconuts accented with hints of the sun-drenched husk and the salty ocean air — this fragrance makes you feel like you’ve been swept away to the beaches of Bali.
