1989 (Taylor’s Version)marks Swift’s fourthre-release in her extensive discography. It comes nine years after Swift first dropped the originalcrossover pop albumand includesfive previously unheard tracks from the vault.
The “Out of the Woods” singer announced that she would be dropping the new project on the final night of the first leg of herEras tourin the U.S.
“Since I was a teenager, I wanted to own my music. The way to do it was to re-record my albums, and the way that you have embraced … that you have celebrated, that you really decided that it was your fight too, and that you were 100 percent behind me … I will never stop thanking you for that,” she added.
In a follow-up post onInstagram, she shared that the project was one of her favorites thus far due to the inclusion of its bonus tracks. “I can’t believe they were ever left behind,” she added. “But not for long!” Swift also reflected on things like dating and sexuality inthe new album’s liner notes.
“I had become the target of slut shaming — the intensity and relentless of which would be criticized and called out if it happened today. The jokes about my amount of boyfriends. The trivialization of my songwriting as if it were a predatory act of a boy crazy psychopath … I had to make it stop because it was really starting to hurt,” she wrote as she looked back at the time when she was 24 years old.
These days, Swift has been in a budding new romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight endTravis Kelce. A source tells PEOPLE thatthings are “quickly turning more serious” between Swiftand the NFL star, 34.
