Keleigh Sperrydidn’t immediately say “yes” whenMiles Tellerasked her out on a date during their first meeting 12 years ago.
In a recent interview withE! News, Teller, 37, admitted his other half, 32 — whomhe marriedin a private Maui, Hawaii ceremony on Sept. 1, 2019 — “turned me down like three times in one night” when they initially met.
“I would say the fact I kept coming back and trying to swoon her, I’ll give myself a pat on the back for that,” he told the outlet atThe Gorgepremiere in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
The couple met at aGrammysafterparty in 2013, before Tellerproposed on an African safariin August 2017.
“I got lucky the valet line was very long,” theTop Gun: Maverickactor added toE! Newsof how they met. “She was leaving and I had no idea how to contact her or anything.”
He continued, “Now look at us, 12 years later,” insisting they “just clicked.”

Teller often talks about his relationship with Sperry in interviews. Whilespeaking to PEOPLEatThe Gorgepremiere, he insisted he “would love” to someday star in a movie with his wife, who is also an actress.
“She always wants to play my wife in a movie, so I would love for that to happen,” Teller shared.
“She actually shot a scene inWar Dogs.She wasn’t my love interest and then they cut it. No fault to hers, but I would love to do a movie," he added, referencing the 2016 flick.
The pair previously shot scenes together forTaylor Swift’s 2021“I Bet You Think About Me” music video, in which they played a groom and bride, while Swift played his ex who crashed the wedding. The couple shot a2023 Super Bowl adthatfeatured them dancing at homewith their dog, Bugsy, as well.

Teller also told PEOPLEin another interview this month that when he met his wife, “It was pretty instantaneous, where we were just simpatico.”
He continued, “We’re just together all the time and it’s the most beautiful relationship I’ve ever had in my life.”
Tomark their 5th wedding anniversarylast year, Sperry revealed she’d popped the question in a post shared onInstagramin August. A video showed the actor in shock as his wife got down on one knee while holding a jewelry box.
“An early 5 year wedding anniversary surprise, Miles always said it’s not fair men don’t get proposed to so cheesed out and did it for him with his dream boat,” the social media personality captioned the post, which featured numerous pics and videos of him with his surprise gift.
