Jason Priestleyis paying tribute to hisBeverly Hills, 90210costarLuke Perry, whodied on Mondayat the age of 52.
Priestley, 49, played Brandon Walsh on the ’90s teen soap, his character a close friend of Perry’s Dylan McKay.
On Thursday evening, Priestley wrote a loving dedication to Perry, whom he called “my teammate, my teacher, my sounding board, my compass, my brother.”
On Thursday morning, Priestley posted an Instagram tribute to Perry, featuring two snaps of the pals — one throwback photo taken during their90210days alongside a more recent picture.
“It’s taken me a couple of days to figure out how to write this,” Priestley began. “My dear friend of 29 years, Luke Perry, was one of those truly special people who really cared… Luke was not only a star, he was an incredibly bright light that was extinguished far too soon… and that is why I, and so many others, are in so much pain today.”
“If you had the good fortune to know Luke, or to have ever crossed his path, I know you are sad today as well,” Priestley continued. “The candle that burns twice as bright only burns for half as long… you burned oh, so brightly Luke… Goodnight Sweet Prince.”
Other90210cast members also honored Perry in the days after his death.
ActressJennie Garthreleased an exclusive statement to PEOPLE: “My heart is broken. He meant so much to so many. Such a very special person. I share my deep sadness with his family and all who loved him. Such a terrible loss.”

The actor remained “under observation” for five days but died on Monday, March 4.
“Actor Luke Perry, 52, passed away today after suffering a massive stroke,” read a statement from Perry’s rep.
In lieu of flowers, the Perry family asks that donations be made toFight Colorectal Cancerand St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
