Cyborgs are everywhere in skill fiction — including some that nobody ever thinks of as cyborg . Many of your favorite heroes — and spaceship ! — have biological and mechanical components . Here ’s a list of the cyborg you might not remember .
Note : Some of these examples are n’t uber - isolated , so if you ’re a Brobdingnagian scifi geek you may already know about them . But we ’re surprised how often people do n’t recollect of these characters and ship when they ’re listing notable cyborgs from science fiction .
So here goes :

Captain Picard . No , not the Locutus thing . The stalwart captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise - five hundred ( and E ) is a bionic woman . He was stabbed through the pump by a Nausicaan back during his time at Starfleet Academy , and ever since then he ’s had an artificial heart , which almost live wrong and kill him a couple time .
The Starship Voyager has bioneural circuitry which is , in some sense , alive . It gives the ship all sort of advantages over a regular Federation starship — except that it ’s vulnerable to biological attack . Like in one episode , the ship gets remove with a cruddy virus , leading to the most celebrated line of products of Voyager dialog of all time :
Luke Skywalker loses his hand at the end of Star war : The Empire Strikes Back , and gets an artificial hand afterwards . People just do n’t think of him as a cyborg theatrical role , even though it ’s a huge trauma for him .

Victor Bergman in Space : 1999has a mechanically skillful heartas well . But unlike Captain Picard ’s center , Victor ’s actually turn out to be a huge advantage in several instalment — in one case , he gets electrocuted , and it ’s only his artificial heart that redeem his liveliness .
Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop has a cybernetic eye , his right one , which he say was replaced after an fortuity — but the purpose and nature of his cybernetic eye is never all made light . According tothe Cowboy Bebop Wiki , he sometimes lay claim his veridical eye can only see the past times , and the prosthetic optic can only see the hereafter .
Dana Scully from The X - Files has a chip implanted in the back of her neck in The X - Files . I imagine the idea is to see to it her reproductive system remotely , or something . They never really explained it all that well , but it was a coolheaded example of the intersection of mild torso repugnance and paranoia .

Bennet “ Ben ” Marco in the 2004 remake of The Manchurian Candidate does n’t just get brainwashed by the uncollectible Guy — rather , he has a computing machine micro chip inclose in his mental capacity to provide him to be controlled via RFID . Yes , that ’s correct — the same engineering that ’s in your swipe wit and the armoury tags on your shirt .

Other spaceships . Some of these you might have known about , but others might be a surprise . The Moya in Farscape is actually an being , or a bioship . And the Minbari White Star Fleet in Babylon 5 has Vorlon bio - armor engineering . The Doctor ’s time automobile , the TARDIS , on Doctor Who is strongly suggested to be partially biological , and in fact a deleted scene from time of year four has the Doctor offering his half - human dead ringer a piece of the TARDIS ( which look like a crybaby nugget ) so he can produce a young one :

And finally , a couple of cases where being a bionic woman is crucial to their blood line story , but people still sometimes seem to forget :
Iron Man is a cyborg . We should n’t even want to include him , because he ’s so patently unable to pull round without the arc reactor in the middle of his chest , keeping his essence beating . But a passel of hoi polloi seem to think he ’s just a guy in a cause of armor .

The Daleks . They ’re not just robot . They ’re not just alien blobs inside armoured casings . They ’re mutant creatures that need their armor to go .
